What Lamen???

-Our week at a glance-

roasting marshmallow, and jumping in the rain!

When it's really hot outside-I let the boys ride their
bikes in the house
- in their underwear, and eat lots of Popsicles!

making s'mores after F.H.E last monday

These boys are best buddies, and love to get wet!

So we have started to read the Book of Mormon every morning as a family. Our little boys are great at making sure that we do it. I bought them little mini scriptures that they carry around all day long some days. After reading those first several chapters a million times before, you would think there is nothing new to learn. We have had a problem with Davy whining a lot lately, so when we were reading the scriptures about Lamen and Lemuel murmuring, we explained to Davy that that means whining. We mimicked their "whining" very dramatically by saying, "WAH-I don't want to leave Jerusalem, WAH,-I don't want to walk back to get the plates, WAH-King Laben will never give them to us, WAH-we should just go back WAH WAHWAH!!! He thought it was funny, because it sounded a lot like him (he literally says WAH when he whines). Now when he starts whining, I reply "what Lamen ?" he then realizes what he is doing and he usually will change his tone. It has been another great teaching experience.

I can't believe how quick summer is flying by. It is already mid July, and fall will be here before we know it: :( Today however is a day that I am glad to have over. I don't know why but the weekends are the most stressful for me. Today I had to teach sharing time in Jr. and Sr. primary. There was only one other presidency member at church today- and it happen to be the one Sunday that the stake primary presidency was visiting our primary, so it was a little stressful getting everything in order, roles passed out etc. before I had to teach. Luckily I found someone to hold Joey for me during the lesson. He is a handful now. I don't like to see him grow up so fast but I can't wait for him to learn how to feed himself, not put EVERYTHING in his mouth, and learn how to crawl down the stairs. Tonight after church we went to Ryan's mom's house for a yummy BBQ dinner, and of course the kids loved playing outside. It was overcast and a little rainy tonight, and it was such a nice break from the heat.
Last night Ryan played in another golf tournament and didn't get home 'till about 9:00 p.m. The kids were begging to go to the beach all day, and we didn't get a chance to go until 6:30 at night. It was a lot cooler, and the kids loved playing in the water. We picked up take-out on the way up there, so not having to cook dinner was a great break also.
As far as the rest of the week goes, I can't really remember what we did. A lot of hanging out at the house, playing in the back yard, Bike rides, and fun stuff like that. A couple milestones in our family this month is that Davy is learning to read. He has gotten very good at sounding words out, and gets so proud of himself for each word he can read by himself. Some days we spend hours reading together. I am thankful for the multitude of books available at our great library. I have also been reading a lot this summer, it is a nice break from our usual t.v. watching. Danny has been potty trained for the past month. He was halfway there for the past six months-but never liked to pee in the toilet. One morning he woke up dry, and told me he needed to "go potty", and he has done great every since, and even stays dry at night. I am so proud of him-he is growing up so fast! Yea less diapers to buy!!! The funny thing is that he loves to pee outside. Yesterday I looked out the window as they were playing outside and heard him say "I have to go pee-pee" He then pulled it out and started to pee as he was running. I guess whatever works eh! Oh, last week Ryan took me on a "date". We have only been on about 5 "dates" that weren't to the temple since we've been married (that's about one each year). He says he is going to start taking me out more-we'll see :) So we went to Sam's Club to buy more food storage, home depot-to buy new towel rods for the bathroom I remodeled a few months ago,to the mall real quick to buy Ryan some new shorts-and he bought me a couple of cute necklaces, and then out to eat real quick before we needed to pick up the boys from Ryan's sister. It was nice to "get out" even if it was just running errands. It's the little milestone in life that make it all worth it!

I think that story of Lamen and your boys is hilarious! I have a FHE story about fruit and each has its own personality like whining watermelon etc. It's fun to see your kids realizing how they just acted because even when you don't realize it, the stories you teach them do have an impact.

That book of Mormon lesson was great! It is amazing how kids whine or act negative without meaning too. They really want to be good and when they realize how they sound they try to change. I use to just use a peice of paper with their names on top and put a + when they were being positive and a - when negative. They started listening to how they were acting and tried to change their negative attitude. It was a simple thing but it worked. Unhappy attitudes in a home can take away the spirit. What a challenge! I look forward to seeing the boys again. Your kids will be amazing! Sounds like you are taking advantage of the time with your boys. It is so easy to get side tracked and miss your great opportunities. Davy is learning to read already! You can teach them so much!

I love your teaching techniques. I keep saying we will have FHE every week but we are so very hit-and-miss. I'd hire you to come do ours!
