I suppose I finally have something to blog about, so here is my first attempt. I actually shot a deer. For those who know me they know I love to hunt, but as soon as I shoot something I can't hunt any more, thus I never shoot. Well early this year I scouted the group of bucks I hunt every year and found a few dandy bucks around the first weeks of July. This huge 5 x 6 in the pics above is my dream buck, so when the hunt started he was my standard. I hunted him for 7 days and had some good bucks inside 30 yards, but I couldn't find my buck. My buddy and I went down for a one day quick trip last Wednesday. I had a feeling I would have a good chance. That morning we stalked into a group of 23 bucks, all in range, but none big enough. For the evening hunt I decided to go back to my tree stands, they seem to pay off every few years. As darkness approached I heard movement below my stand and hoped whatever it was would take the trail I was over. 6 great bucks popped out of the aspens 20 yards below me and walked directly under my stand to feed. It took me more than 10 minutes to decide to shoot, I just couldn't get that massive buck out of my mind. The Giant 3 point suddenly grew a 7 inch kicker and turned into a 4 point, that was all the xtra motivation I needed. It was probably to dark, but I let the arrow fly as he stood broadside at 12 yards. 100 yards later he crashed into the grass and I had killed my first deer in 5 years. I just hoped he was as big as he looked in the dark. He's definitely the biggest deer I've taken, I was thankful he went down quickly and ran up hill which made the pack out much easier. He is 25 1/2 tall 27" outside spread, 16 1/2" G4s, 38" of mass and scores 161 1/4. Hopefully my monster buck will live through the year, grow much larger, and give me a chance to hunt him next archery season. Good luck to all you hunters through the rest of the fall hunts.

Woo hoo! I guess that's the sign of a serious hunter if you don't shoot the first thing you see. :) Many other hunters would be jealous of this catch. Good work!
well done. perhaps you'll be in the record book next year.

Nice Deer Ryan !
Thanks for inviting us up tonight! We had a lot of fun, I just wish we could have gotten up there a little sooner and that it wasn't such a busy weekend (we have a baptism tomorrow too).
Sweet, so I'm one of those wives who cares! Thanks for giving me all the details tonight on your hunt Ryan. I didn't realize you hadn't shot anything in 5 years. Scott is always telling me tidbits about your hunting escapades and what you saw, so I've always assumed that you shoot something every year.
He's a beauty though (they both are!). I hope you get the big one next year!!!
